Anyone manage to get DLA mobility for autistic child?

My child already gets dla highest care rate and has since he was 3 months old although I don’t remember if it was back dated to his birth or only from the first day I was allowed to apply once the issues had been going on 3 months which they started the day he was born as he was born very poorly.
Anyways he’s just been diagnosed with autism he’s 3. He won’t walk outside he rolls on the ground, he runs off if I don’t keep
Hold of his hand even for a split second if I let go of him to put shopping in the boot or something simple he’s off across the car park, he’s non verbal, he’s also partially deaf...... I did try earlier in the year to claim mobility for him but was knocked back but now we have the autism diagnosis are things more likely to go ahead with the mobility?

No idea on that sorry Emz. I would ask @MNHQ to move this over to theSN section as you are bound to get some answers in there Smile

It's about the level of care they require, not the diagnosis. You could have a child with no diagnosis receive the low rate mobility of they require enough additional care in this area.

I received the low rate mobility for my daughter who has ADHD. I put in supporting letters etc from the paediatrician for my claim. I received medium rate for her care.

Your son sounds a lot like my brother in the running off when out and he receives a high rate mobility, he got a diagnosis of autism when he was a bit older maybe 5yrs old and is now in his 30's.
He was given a larger disability pushchair once he got too big for a std buggy as he was very quick and had no sense of danger when out and about.
Discuss it with your doctor about what other help you would be able to apply for, sounds like going again for mobility would be a good idea, does he go to a nursery or pre-school that could provide any letters in support?

Yes I recently put him into a nursery and they can’t cope with him, they are sending him home after only 2 hours saying they have to stay with him constantly and it’s not possibly and they are now getting funding and are going for 1to1 support for him and they are writing up a education care and health plan. Sorry it’s all very new to me. Hopefully after Christmas they said his 1to1 support will be in place and he can start doing his full days like he’s meant to. I guess I could ask them for a report or letter explaining what he’s like while he’s there
