16 month old nap problems

My DS is a good sleeper, both in the day and at night. Generally goes down without any hassle, unless he's really overtired. I can leave him in his cot and he'll chatter away to himself until he's ready for a sleep - anything between 1 minute and 20mins+.

My problem is when he wakes up after his daytime nap he instantly stands up and starts crying. I normally just rush in and get him and he points to the door to leave, and is immediately happy once we leave the room.

This week i've been trying to leave him until he stops crying and i've realised that generally its not tears just noise, but today when i left him for about 7 minutes he started getting upset and properly crying.

Has anyone got any advice on how to get him to wake up happy . This doesn't happen very often when he wakes in the morning - just after his nap.

I reckon he just wants to be up and playing or whatever. Why do you leave him crying if you're getting him up anyway? . DD does this sometimes but i just get her up and take her downstairs. I don't think its anything to worry about.

Don't really understand why this is a problem.

Once he's awake, you'll get him up anyway.

Probably just wants to get on with his day, not hang about in his cot any more.

I really wouldn't worry about it.

Its not a problem, it'd just be nice if he woke up happy rather than upset and grumpy.

I thought that if i leave him to cry (not screaming obviously, more of a grizzle - and not for very long, i think 7 mins is my max in the last 16 months!) he'd realise that its not the best way to get attention and stop doing it!!!

If it wasn't a daily occurence i wouldn't mind at all, its just that its everyday and its horrible to hear him cry the minute he wakes up.

Maybe he just wants his mummy! I can't go anywhere or do anything without DD wanting a cuddle - suits me just fine though!! It can't be very nice for you to hear him crying though - Good luck with it!!

Thanks!!

Yeah, cuddles are good! I like it when he wakes up a bit before he was ready to, and when you go it he falls back asleep on me - reminds me of when he was a baby.

Hopefully one day he'll just stop doing it. I'm sure there's nothing i can do, but doesn't hurt to ask!

OOOh! You're just like me. DD is 16 months and i love it when she falls asleep on me. They grow too fast.
