He has been in trouble at school quite a bit. DP and I are now starting to think maybe Martial Arts will help with the discipline. I am afraid he will learn a judo kick and go into school and use it. Could we be adding fuel to fire. Help us decide please.

My son has done karate for 5 years (currently 9) and started as he as Aspergers and difficulty in controlling himself in the playground. It has been fantastic and the discipline is brilliant. He has a blackbelt now and can do 20+ katas (sequence of moves). He has the utmost respect for his Sensei and now my daughter (6) is in her second year and loves it too.

It's non contact and they teach them about stranger danger and respect as well. I would do it myself if I could move that well!

Hi all,
I teach Capoeira in Hampshire and Dorset to children and adults
Personally I think it's the perfect mix between martial arts, acrobatics, dance and music (percussions and singing). Each practicioner, whether it's adults or child, will be attracted by one of these features and will be able to develop that in depth, as well as improving in the other areas, so it's a relatively complete discipline in my opinion. We do have annual grading too, but there are not set moves or skills like in karate/judo/kung fu. It's all more fluid and there are no scripts
