DS7 - Everything Uncomfortable

We are having such a hard time with DS7. It started a few months ago with pants/socks feeling a bit uncomfortable to him but was never a big deal. It has grown into a huge monster now, with huge tantrums and crying episodes daily, whenever he has to get dressed for school/bed/clubs etc. It'll start with his socks not being right so we fix them but then moves onto trousers, collars, sleeves, pockets and now his bed, pillow, the couch....

He wriggles like crazy, cries, whines, moans and it's just unbearable.
We've tried so many ways to try and help him. Letting him pick clothes, listening to him, validating his feelings but it's so hard to deal with.
He was a very easy going, happy boy up until now and I think the suddenness of this is another reason it's hard to deal with.
I've spoken to his teacher and he's fine at school.

Just wondering if anyone else has been through this and has any advice/tips? It's so exhausting for the whole family! Thank you

I don’t have any advice as a parent, but I was like this as a child at about the same age (maybe starting around 6). I remember finding the seams on sock toes unbearable, until my aunt suggested turning them inside out so the seam wasn’t against my skin - it worked! I had a very limited wardrobe of other clothes that I found comfy, and grew out of it by the time I was 8 or 9 I think. Only other thing I can think to check is washing powder/fabric conditioner in case that’s irritating him. Also I had quite a stressful childhood in some ways and it definitely coincided with me moving 200 miles away from my first home, having to travel to visit my dad etc - could it be how he’s manifesting stress around covid, or something else?

have you tried silk underwear incl silk top under his shirt? I agree with PP, it sounds like sensory issue linked to something else.
