DS who is 3 and 7 months has recently started to stutter at the beginning of talking mostly when he gets excited.
So he will see a tractor out the window when we are driving for instance, and me and his daddy are in the front talking and he's in the back saying 'Ddddddddddd Daddy!' 'Mu mu mu mu mummy!' As soon as he's got our attention he starts talking.
He doesn't do it all the time it's more when he's excited, and we've noticed it more with Christmas approaching etc and he's trying to tell us something.
Is it normal for kids to have a stutter at this age? I've read about developmental stuttering around this age has anyone else had this experience with their DC?

Not an expert, but I think I have heard it is normal.
Just be patient, don't rush him, don't say the words for him.

Hi my 3 yr old dd is the same. Often when she starts talking, she’ll repeat the first word several times before she says the whole sentence. I think it’s completely normal. My older ds did it too and he’s fine now.

Dd is 4 next month and will stutter when she’s desperate to tell me something, or excited. I just get her to pause and take a breath and tell me again.

If it’s only when he’s excited I’d say v normal.

I think they do it when they are still thinking of what to say, as they haven't learned to say "um" and "uh" yet. They start talking before they know what they want to say as they're excited, have a strong feeling and know they want to say something.
