I have a tic from childhood

Forgive me if I have posted in the wrong thread.

Basically my father was physically abusive when I was a child. I have a tic/ reflex/ flinch that means if someone moves their hands too close to my face I jump/ turn my face away.

I have had this since I was a young child maybe 3/4.

Thankfully my mum left my dad when I was still young but I have never got rid of this.

I have spent a lot of time/money and energy on therapy etc but this is till here.

The issue is now I have a young daughter and I would like to find out if I can get rid of it so I don't have to explain to my daughter why I have this.

It can be quite noticeable once you pick up on it. Some of my nephews are aware of it aged 10 etc and think it's funny to watch me flinch.

Just wondered if anyone had any ideas of how to get rid of this?

I'm so sorry that you had to go through that as a child.

I'm sorry that I can't help you but hopefully someone will be along soon who can Thanks

I don't know how you can get rid of it, but if you just say to your dd "oh it makes me jump, isn't it silly" it will just be something mummy does and she won't think more about it.

Yes that's true @Witchend.

It's not so much that she would notice it but that she would then repeatedly do things to get me to react. Obviously completely inadvertently or without realising what it is. I gave up a lot of contact sports as a teenager as team mates would notice and then deliberately stimulate it.

Maybe I need to chat to my GP
