DS just ran away from home He and dd had been arguing all afternoon and I had sent him to his room for yet another timeout. He told me he was going to see his daddy and I sent him back to his room. 2 mins leter I went into the hall the the front door was ajar. I checked outside and dd checked inside and then we realised he had snuck out So i rang dh as he had the car and then dd and i went out to look for him on foot.

He got about 1/2 a mile in those 2 mins - i can't believe he ran so fast. He also crossed a busy road Thankfullyhe was fine and dh found him and bought him home. Thats when I realised that all he was wearing was a pair of shorts and his socks!

No-one stopped to see if he was ok. The road is really busy at that time of day plus there are lots of pedestrians and yet none of them checked to see if the little boy wearing next to nothing and running as fast as he could while bawling his head off, was ok

God i am shaking He's never done this before but from now on I will be double locking the door and keeping the key in my pocket!

Aw Dusty that's awful.

Hope you manage to talk things through.

Give him a big hug, he must be frightened too

and a good cry never hurts anyone

Thank God he's OK

He has already said sorry and that he'll never do it again but he is very impulsive so we'll need to keep a close eye on him

glad he is ok.
hopefully it has been enough to scare him and he won't do it again.
When you have all calmed down, I would just talk to him about why it was such a dangerous thing to do and tell him how you felt when you realised he had gone.
My dd (also 7) did this, but luckily we live on a farm and she just ran to find her dad who rang me straight away.
I explained that she could have been run over etc etc touch wood it's not happenend since.

((((Dusty))))) So glad he turned up fine. I'm sure he'll be so shocked from it he'll think twice before doing it again!

dustystar · 19/10/2007 19:05

We had a big hig and a few tears It was scary but from the time I realised he had gone to dh finding him was less than 5 mins thankfully.

I am really shocked that no-one stopped him to see if he was ok - it is cold and near dark here and he had no shoes or shirt on.

I know that if i saw a child like in that situation that I'd stop them and ask if they needed help.

I think it shocked dd too as she is being extra nice to him now
