Can’t get 2 year olds attention - could it be asd?

Hi,

I have been assuming for a while now that my DD has ASD. She is 2.1 and she has a few issues to suggest this, but what I have recently come to realise is that her concentration is so poor that I feel that it stops her from learning. I do feel like she does have the capacity if she is concentrating but most of the time she won’t. Even showing her a picture or getting her attention for a 121 game can be very challenging.
She does also has some speech and communication delays, she does say at least 300 single words - just isn’t that motivated to communicate. Follows some directions and commands, receptive language is most probably behind what they would expect for her age.
Some people have said maybe it’s ADHD and not ASD but she is able to sit for a short story or concentrate on the TV.
I’m wondering if it could be another LD that I haven’t even considered, I’m
Completely lost. No referral to the paediatrician yet, so it’s a long wait until we can have her assessed.
Also nursery have said she won’t concentrate on any group activities or sit down for story/singing time. I would have thought that is not unheard of for a 2 year old but they act like it is! Any advice would be great.

I would think it's totally normal for her age. Can't think of many toddlers at just turned 2 who can sit for any length of time.

Over 300 words is certainly not a speech delay.

@CP2701 thanks for your reply.

I should have been more clear on the language, she is very good with the amount of words she says but doesn’t use them to communicate at all. There’s also a lot of babbling in between the actual words. She rarely makes requests with words or answers questions, just very limited interaction with words. Very rarely points to things but does on occasion.

People with ADHD are able to super focis on various subjects of interest, it is a myth that they are unable to concentrate on anything.
