Hi all
I'm guessing I'm not alone in feeling at my wit's end with lockdown boredom... the year has been way less social than my son has needed and I have seen him really quite understimulated. We've recently put him into his childminder 3 days a week to give him the opportunity to settle in his little community better (he often dislikes being near kids in the playground unless I coax or support him), but the other 2 days of the week I just often feel lost knowing what to do with him to provide adequate learning opportunities through play. He has cars, a wobbel board, a farm, he joins me to wash up, clean sinks, cut veg, make pizza, bake, play playdough / kinetic sand, scribbles with chalk/pencils, walks, playground, we get the paints out and have done a print session with the paint, we role play kitchen, we have made dens, we bounce on the bed, he has a puzzle, magnetic letters and numbers, lots of books, we play chase and hide and seek.. but maaaaan am I bored and too often he says 'want new toys'! Grrr. I've succumbed to a bit of telly every other day... does anyone have any other suggestions of what to do with a child this age?! Am I massively missing something in his repertoire of activities? In terms of his development, he has very good fine and gross motor skills, he's fully potty trained and speaks in sentences of around 8 or 9 words but he's not hugely comfortable around other kids yet, preferring the company of adults. THANK YOU!

My LO is slightly younger but I’ve found the following are engaging (and cheap!)
Stickers
Masking tape (I stick a load of little bits on the table and he can then stick with them)
Small Pots, boxes etc etc with conkers/stones/gems for pouring and tipping
A treasure hunt - I take pictures on my phone of various things and then we have to go and find them. Then he has to put them all back again before we can do another one!
I also make him sort the clean laundry - pile for him, me and DH. This takes ages as he’ll go and put his items in his room one by one.

Do you have all his toys out all the time? I keep some packed away and then rotate them every couple of weeks which seems to make them a bit more interesting.

Oh and mine can also a bit funny around other kids at the park sometimes and he’s been in nursery since 10 months (and over lock down). I think it’s pretty normal and just that want the equipment to themselves.

I hear you! Mine is 2.5 and I'm really struggling mostly for my own sanity not her's lol. We have tea parties and play small world a lot. She also likes jigsaws. She also just likes to chuck a pingpong ball around our kitchen lol and has a larger ball that she likes to catch. She also likes to play 'dinosaur coming' where she says there's a dinosaur coming and we hide under a blanket Grin Don't be afraid to put a movie on and chill every so often too. No harm especially if you're sharing the exoerience and talking to them about it. We get out for a walk and a ride on her bike/scooter every day too. Keep going. This won't be forever x

I recommend this book: five minute mum by Daisy Upton. Has some great ideas all by age range. Also not sure if you have Facebook but I found some local toy libraries still open. All run by churches near me so they are free.
