Newborn has no uvula

So it was picked up on babies NIPE that he has no uvula (dangly bit at the back of your throat). Paediatrician didn’t seem concerned but after a google I have terrified myself as it can be linked to many things. Apparently it’s incredibly rare to be born without it. Basically does anyone have any knowledge on this? I am waiting for babies 6 week review as that’s when I was told they’d refer him to ENT. Thanks for any info :) I hoping he’s just one of the rare ones who doesn’t have it!

I can understand that you are worried but everyone has something a little different about them. When my sisters appendix needed removing they got to it and it was perfectly fine, they kept looking and she had two appendices, apparently sone people just do.

The really good thing is that the Paediatrician didn't seem concerned Smile

@JiltedJohnsJulie thanks so much for your reply I’m hopeful it’s just a quirky thing he can bring up when he’s older. Thanks so much!

Hi, I have an absent uvula. I have a condition called Pierre Robin syndrome. I just want to reassure you that it has not caused me any problems. It can cause a more nasel sounding speach, but you should be offered a speach and language assessment when he is older.
