HYSTERICAL Haircuts - please help!

Haircuts for my LB have turned into a dreaded thing where he ends up literally shaking with fear, absolutely hysterical and it's so distressing. I started cutting it in his sleep which was really successful for a while but now he wakes up and I don't want to make him scared to sleep!
He won't even let me bit a small bit, he says he's scared (but he's 3 so can't verbalise why) never had a bad experience and when younger was absolutely fine and even got comments about how good he was!

Any genius ideas? I feel like I've tried everything and his hair is so thick it just can't be left.

Our little boy (nearly 4) went through the same thing, Altho he’s still a bit apprehensive now. We cut it ourselves too and never hurt him or cut him he just suddenly became scared of it. We make it a fun thing, sit him in his toy car with a phone to play games or watching paw patrol. Try and chat to him so he doesn’t focus on it. Just keep going with it try and make it as positive as possible

Maybe look for some books on getting hair cut. There is supposed to be a good Charlie and Lola book on haircuts. Also I've seen a Jo Jo and gran gran episode on cbeebies. Our little one (2.5y) HATES having his hair cut. We've found sitting him in front of a mirror has eased the whole ordeal sightly because he can see what is going on. We have a lady come to the house to cut hair. At the same time I usually put something on YouTube on my phone for him to watch. You could also pretend the hairdresser's cape is a super hero cape?

Funnily enough I've just been doing that today and he enjoyed 'flying' with his Cape on. I did think about getting someone to the house instead has it improved things alot for you? Mirrors good idea also, helps when we brush his teeth - thankyou really useful ideas x

I felt like the home environment is much better for our LO as he tends to get a bit wary of new places, etc. Also me or my husband having our haircut at the same time seems to have helped as he can see that we also have ours cut and how we react etc. The superhero Cape is a great distraction, I found it he'd freak out at all the hair sitting on his top, etc. The mirror also helped a lot as he can actually see what's going on rather than sitting there seeing all this hair falling to the floor and not knowing what's going on. Bless them. All these new experiences to understand. Good luck for your next cut.
