My ds of 3.10 had a friend back from nursery yesterday. He was tired and flopped and lolled (though his friend was full of enthusiastic ideas for things to do )Anyway they ended up at a bit of a loose end. I did some baking with them but then left them to it. What's the best thing to do next time? Is the whole point of a playdate to learn to get along with friends without adult supervision, or should a parent expect to give 3-yr olds a a helping hand if needed? My ds does play with my 5-yr old goddaughter for hours without supervision, but he's known her forever. This was his first friend home from school.

personally i think they get on better if left to their own devices without anxious parents intervening. just make sure there is somethign to do and provide drinks and snacks at judicious intervals. if they get tired or start bickering you could perhaps do some activity with them or [whispers] cbeebies.
