and it not just the remote control he uses, its anything he has to hand at the time. I wasnt overly concerned until his Daddy informed me he has now started to do it to Grandma when he visit her Ive tried telling him its naughty and he just laughs, even tried hitting him back (gently) and he thinks he is being tickled and laughs histerically! how do you make a 15m old understand that hitting is naughty

to be honset i just firmly got hold of my dc's hands mid swing for hitting me and i just said no in a firm voice, then put their hand down at their side......i did it every time until they got the message!! worked for my two....dd has just got out of it now at 18mths....

My DS started hitting me and thinking it was the funniest thing in the world about a month ago (he is nearly 20 months). I then found out he had hit a smaller child at nursery as well and was mortified (he didn't hit hard, just playfully, thinking it was fun). We do the same as glaskham said and just tell him firmly "no hitting" and he usually stops. However he has recently started hitting DH's plasma tv with the remote... DH is not amused.

i guess he thinks my firm voice is hysterical then, ive tried the firm 'no' and its not sinking in!

He did go through a bit of a biting phase a few months back, he seems to have grown out of it now, i bit him back one day and he didnt like it so didnt bite me again after that!

i didnt break the skin of course!! it was a gentle nip just to let him feel the sensation of what being bit feels like!

Our DD has been through this recently -> 16-18mths stage. We have taught her to tickle us instead. We encourage her to tickle and make a huge happy fuss about it when she does so she thinks it is really funny. If she hits us then we normally give her a firm "no!" and then tell her to tickle us not hit us. Because she gets a good response then from the tickling she will stop the hitting and go for the fun option. She rarely hits any more.
