How? Toddler and baby

Hey could do with some advice pls or maybe just a reassurance that this is normal and will pass? Ok here goes

I have a 2 month old and a 2 year old. Both boys. Toddler gets upset sometimes if I'm giving attention to the baby. Not always but often and it gets draining especially if hubby at work and not around

Toddler goes to nursery every morning which does help but afterwards we try to go for a walk but isn't always possible due to weather. He's a real mummy's boy and wants my attention but equally if I leave the room to go with him then the baby gets upset and when both in the same room sometimes the baby wants to be held etc and toddler will just have great big tantrums

It doesn't help toddler is speech delayed which is adding to his frustration and yes he is under SALT and that's not what this post is about but just added that to give a clear photo

So what can I do? I can't be in 2 places at once and they both need me and both get upset if not getting attention etc

It's fine when hubby here to help

It’s so tough. I had my little one when my little boy was 2.5, I felt such guilt when I couldn’t play with him. However firstly all I will say is that it goes so so quick, I cannot believe my youngest is now 15 months. So anyway the only thing I can suggest is doing your best to set aside time after nursery for him and you, if baby is napping or settled get out a game and play with him and say right let’s mummy and ... play a fun game. It just helps knowing there’s a little bit of focus just for him whilst you’re getting through that first tricky bit. Even if you can’t do it every day, just do what you can. It will pass and the babes will get used to each otherD just hang in there xx

Can you get some toys that he only gets to play with if you have to be sitting with the baby eg feeding or he is sleeping on you. My niece really likes water painting books (the paper starts out white when dry and the picture is revealed as you paint it with a paintbrush dipped in water). These have helped my sister when she needs to feed the baby and can't get down on the floor and play with her on demand. Niece puts them on the arm of the chair and paints standing up or sitting on the couch next to my sister, and she helps or talks about the picture that's getting revealed.

If you can find an activity like this that you can do together when you're stuck with the baby he might start to enjoy that time instead of getting upset and frustrated that you can't come and play with him on the floor or do whatever else it was that he wanted.

@Dreamland13 thanks for the reassurance that this will pass

To the other poster, I do have toys he can bring to me when I'm feeding baby as I suggested but he still throws a tantrum

Today actually I've moved his big train table from his bedroom into the living room which is where we all spend most of the time indoors. So far that's kept him entertained for times when I can't build the other train tracks from scratch due to being with the baby. So let's see how long it lasts lol

I do understand you. It's really hard, and from time to time we face it too. Instead of trying to fix it, I asked my eldest son to help me with his brother, and they are gradually getting closer. Now they play together. Maybe you can play with both of them, or try to give him something to do. Or learn him to help you, and then the youngest brother.
Don't worry too much!
