Shall I pay for the ADHD assessment?

Did you get one for your child and if you did what did you gain from it?
We had an educational psychology assessment suggesting ADHD for our DS 10yr. Included are some notes for the teachers and parents as well as his academic abilities. What do we get for going the extra mile with a further assessment? Any advice much appreciated before I plunge to further costs. And yes CHAMS is absolutely oversubscribed in our area, we’ve been waiting since Feb and want to move quicker before 11+ transition. Btw. not keen on medicating.

We had a private diagnosis for our 8 year old st the time as CAMHS taking too long.
Once you have an official diagnosis you can apply for EHCP (if in England) and this helps grant children with ADHD more time for exams or other factors to help them achieve in academia

If you are not keen on medication, then there is little pount paying for an assessment. Perhaps you will get a definitive answer and an official paper stating that his presentation is in keeping with the symptoms of ADHD. A few guidelines such as “not be seated near the windows, should be given clear short instructions”.
I mean it is always useful to discuss with a professional but to me, we went because we wanted medication. Camhs was absolutely useless.
You dont get an EHCP or extra time just because you have adhd. It is much more complex than that.
