my 2.5 week old is smiling? Seemed that way last night, Grandma is convinced which I poo pooed but now, well she gave me three lovely ones in a row earlier and then one for her brother. I thought it was 4-6 weeks? Certainly was with DS. Is it just wind.

Do you really want ot hear that it is prob wind, or do you want ot think she is smiling

Meeely2 · 12/10/2007 16:29

she smiling for a reason would u say e.g. in reaction to you saying hello cutie pie?

belgo · 12/10/2007 16:29

If it looks like a smile, and the grandma thinks so too, then it is

CarGirl · 12/10/2007 16:31

yes my youngest smiled very early - she was just copying us (rather than doing it as she was happy) but it got a big response so she carried on doing it lots IYSWIM

The average is 4-6 weeks, which means some are earlier and some are later. I got roundly patronised for suggesting ds1 was smiling early, and was pleased when it was actually observed and confirmed as a smile and not wind. Both my boys smiled early.

FlossALump · 12/10/2007 16:38

She looks up at you and smiles when looking at you and does seem to respond to being spoken to! DS and I were certainly talking to her earlier when she did and no wind was passed!

She could well be smiling -- 4-6 weeks is an average, not set in stone. How lovely!

FlossALump · 12/10/2007 16:42

She is rather!

It's possible so I'd say go ahead and believe that she's smiling. Even if it is just wind, who cares! The smiles make all the poo and spit-up worth while.

suedonim · 12/10/2007 16:50

Mine were all smiling by 3wks so yes, your dd could be smiling at you.

skidaddle · 12/10/2007 16:52

was she overdue - they say overdue babies smile earlier - my dd smiled at 3 wks and was 2 wks overdue

2HappyFrighteningPeople · 12/10/2007 16:53

Really, skidaddle? Both of mine were 2 weeks () over. Learn something new every day...

francagoestohollywood · 12/10/2007 16:53

It might be, I'm coonvinced that dd started to smile (not just for digestion ) at 3 weeks.

CarGirl · 12/10/2007 19:32

dd4 smiled at 3 days at my bf we were all no not possible but we kept testing her - if you smiled at her (big cheesy grin) she smiled back, she was 14 days late and a solid 9lb10 at birth.

FlossALump · 13/10/2007 10:20

Yes DD was nearly two weeks late - had to be induced. And if largeness means they smile early well she was 10 and a half pounds so I guess she would qualify! DP is now convinced she is too - none so far today though!

MrsJohnCusack · 13/10/2007 10:36

yes mine was definitely smiling by 3 weeks - you can tell the windy ones, they're much more of a grimace

he was 2 weeks over and 10 lbs 5 so maybe a pattern is emerging...

FlossALump · 14/10/2007 19:25

maybe MJC!

Babies have been proven to smile in the womb so I say it is smile now and not wind!

juuule · 14/10/2007 20:10

I think it's a smile. Mine smiled from very early.
