HOw old?

SaintJude · 12/10/2007 16:17

He's 2.5.

He actually broke things in the shops today.

He pulled a necklace off of a rail and it broke sending beads spewing all across the shop floor.

That was after pulling off a rail of girls dresses in Moonson and throwing them in a heap on the floor.

Yesterday he was pulling over the queue guards over in the buildng society, and in the bank he grabbed handfulls of their mortgage leaflets and flung them across the floor and then 'swam' in the pile on the floor.

His disdain at my telling him off today was demonstrated by him smacking me in the face. Twice

take it he's not a buggy boy anymore? I still insist mine go in a buggy for shopping trips, or like you say they don't get to go.....(they are three in december)

SaintJude · 12/10/2007 16:23

Ah, yes, my DS is the "Amazing Mini Houdini".

He has been able to escape from a 5 point harness since he was 10 months old.

It's an amazing skill, and basically involves him spinning his body around and around until he works his way out - like a corkscrew.

Reins dont work either.

Oh dear. I do all my shopping on line now if I can, to avoid exactly this sort of thing. I took dd to try and get a coat the other week, and spent all my time chasing her in/out/around shops. Can a 20 month old be done for shoplifting for running out of a shop wearing their stock ?

What did the shop say about the necklace?

ArmadilloDaMan · 12/10/2007 16:27

I've been here.

Last week.

Ds favourite is grabbing something off the shelf and throwing it accross the store, or opening packaging and dropping stuff on the floor. He also tries to break the chip and pin machines, and tills if he can reach them. And he has a lovely habit of legging it and hiding.

This is why I don't go shopping unless it is absolutely desperate. We can go without food if necessary

I really sympathise. Sorry it was so awful.

Meeely2 · 12/10/2007 16:28

would suggest leaving him at home for future stress freee shopping, or taking a spare pair of hands.....i took my mil, sil and bil the other weekend, was very relaxing not to have eyes in the back of my head, but bil soon got bored of going up and down esculators!

SaintJude · 12/10/2007 16:30

Well yes CSWS - but you do live in the middle of nowhere too

The shop said not to worry about the necklace. But I could tell they were really pissed off.

Thanks armadillo.

Also, a comment for anyone who is lurking and not posting.....

If you see a child clambering out of a trolley and feel compelled to say to the parent "Oh look - they are climbing out" and the reply you get is "yes, I know, thank you". Dont persist in dramatising about how dangerous it is. Just fuck off and leave the poor parent alone, okay?

Ds favourite pose in the shopping trolley is to stand up adn wrap his arms round my neck

Just ignore others - although it is really irritating.

usually I get asked why ds is screaming/running away/throwing things. I tend to tell them it's cos he feels like it (with a scowl on my face).

They usually leave me alone after that

mishymoo · 12/10/2007 16:37

I do sympathise with all of you. I will NOT take my 2.3 year old DS shopping with me at all now.

He will not sit in the 'proper' part of the trolley so to stop a tantrum, he sits in the main part. He then proceeds to throw everything out of the trolley across the supermarket aisles. I have tried bribing with his own little list and pencil, even tried bag of biscuits, etc but nothing works!

SaintJude · 12/10/2007 16:54

Armadillo - that's what DS says.

"I want a duddle mumma". To which I reply with a sharp "No!" because I know its his way of attempting to get down.

I then get aside glances from people who think I am an uncaring soul for refusing my son a "duddle"....

I'm sooooooooo glad I'm not the only one.

I feel your pain, dd1 2.7 is exactly the same, its a complete nightmare, she wont stay in the double buggy, or the buggy board, she hid in a display kitchens cupboard in B&Q, she puts things under the buggy when i'm not looking, gets into window displays, generally just screams tho whole time we are in a shop, last week she had a massive massive tantrum in Lakeside, when I tried to pick her up off the floor, she threw herself down, putting her tooth through her lip, everone was staring and muttering at the cruel mum that had hurt her dd

SaintJude · 12/10/2007 21:10

Ah yes....I have had to explain to many people over the last few days how DS got his egg-sized bump on his forehead.....(he was rolling around in mud full of cat poo so I grabbed him by his arm and yanked him out of the way....straight into a wall

I never knew those things in banks/post offices were called queue guards. What a great name.

You have to admit - they were MADE to be knocked over by small children.

Mine like pulling the elastic thing out of them and trying to clip it back in (cue some very anxious looking shop person giving them glares)

just think - he's ingenious your boy. He'll go far!

SaintJude · 12/10/2007 21:17

LOL - I'm not sure that's their real name

You are right though - he has such amazing talents - I wish I knew how to channel them and put them to good use.......

It's a hard age with boys! They need to run and run and run and climb and fall over and roll in mud and run some more. Then eat, sleep and do it all over again.

Shopping was just never designed for small boys.

SaintJude · 12/10/2007 21:25

ugggh dont mention eating

That's like an exercise in creative art.....
