How do you make your child walk by your side?

Dts are a nightmare, they will be 4 in December, and I still have to put wrist bands on them when we go out, as one or both will run off, and obviously with 2 its much more difficult to chase them, especially when the run in opposite direction, they will hold my hands, but if I need to let go for any reason they shoot off like a rocket, so the wrist bands go back on, but they are beginning to look a bit silly at thier age wearing wrist bands.

I bought mine one of these - they have a kind of lead that attaches to the back of the backpack so you can keep hold of them. Like reins, but they don't realise that they are being held, it just feels to them like they have a backpack on.

Finally at 3.6, my runner-offer is starting to tire of the game but you have my complete sympathy.

He now hates being confined so the threat of the backpack/trolley seat seems to keep him under control as long as I don't push it too long.

There is some good stuff on the supernanny website on this subject, that we have tried to implement. I think it would have worked well had we persevered.

here

are some more manly looking backpacks with sneaky handles, the ladybug is gorgeous but not sure if your dts are boys and too cool for that kind of thing!

Good luck! One's hard enough!

Nag nag nag and

nag! Even now (I'm embarrassed to say how much older mine are) I find I make a constant commentary 'stop here- quickly cross- this way- make a space(other pedestrians).
