3 month old getting frustrated

My ds is 12 weeks old and has just started playing with her toys. She can knock the animals on her gym and hold rattles etc. I thought this would be a great stage but ever since she has begun to do this, she has been getting really frustrated. When she couldn't touch her toys, she would stare at them for ages. Now that she can touch them, she starts crying after about 3 minutes! I was just wondering - is this a common phase?

My dd was exactly the same! Seems every time a new skill develops then so does frustration at not being able to do that little bit more. When she was 3 months her attention span wih her toys became almost non existent - she would pick them up and then tire of them very quickly, although that passed when she became better at exploring things, gripping and passing things from hand to hand. Dd is now 8 months and can't quite crawl which makes her very frustrated, especially when she can't get to toys just out of reach, so I guess this happens at lots of stages!

My ds was the same and he got fed up of the same toys so I got a door-bouncer off e-bay and as soon as he could hold up his head he loved it. I'm sure I'll get lots of abuse as there are people who disagree with them, but he loved being upright and looking around and bouncing away.
