Breast feeding help..

My baby is 2.5 weeks old, he will spend hours on my boob, the minute I take him off he goes mental.

I've expressed and gave him 3 ounces tonight yet he's still screaming unless he's on my boob.

Is he hungry or is this normal this early on?! I'm starting to want to give in and bottle feed as I'm worried he's not getting enough now. I'm finding it quite upsetting at this point.

Is he putting on weight? Producing the right number of wet/dirty nappies for his age? If so, it sounds normal, and not because you aren’t producing enough milk. He’s probably having a growth spurt and sucking so much to tell your body to produce more milk tomorrow, but that doesn’t mean he’s starving now, or that your body isn’t doing what it should, if that makes sense. Or he might just want the comfort of sucking and being close to you. It’s really, really tough, I know - the first few weeks of breastfeeding were the hardest thing I’ve ever done. It does get better, less frequent and enjoyable, but of course it’s your decision to continue or not. It’s not officially recommended til 6 weeks or so (Can’t remember specifically) but you could also try a dummy to see if it’s just the need to suck that’s driving his behaviour. There’s a risk of nipple confusion but in the US they give dummies to newborns in hospital and their babies can still breastfeed so it’s a risk, not a given. Best of luck with whatever you decide.

That sounds normal to me. Remember that breastfeeding is a comfort thing as well as for nutrition so it might be he just wants to do it for comfort and there’s nothing wrong with that. I wouldn’t worry as long, as he’s doing plenty of wet nappies he should be getting enough food. Congrats on your little one Flowers

My DS was like that . He would often only nap if he was latched onto the boob ( and usually not even nursing 🤦‍♀️)! It got really bad around 6 weeks and I use to make my husband stay up half the night to watch over us while I slept with baby attached to me ( I worry).

Then slowly by 8-10 weeks old he started sleeping independently in his bed side cot 😅

He’s 19 months now and healthy, confident, independent and a great sleeper!

As long as your little one is putting on weight fine , I wouldn’t worry . Boob is comfort too !
