My son cries a lot - is this normal!

My son is 7 weeks old and is absolutely beautiful.

I find he's quite whingy and cries a lot.

He is my first child so I have nothing to compare it to really, please advise.

He is great at night and sleeps well 11-3am and then through to 6am but during the day he's different.

Example, he's had a good 4 hour sleep, he wakes up and I change his nappy, feed him enough food, burp him, at this point I am expecting him to be happy and content but he is still grizzly so I play and sing to him but he's still unsettled.

Most of the time he will only sleep if I hold him.

I can't even go to the toilet or unload the dishwasher without him crying. Is this normal?

My mum says it's because he is a boy and girls don't do this.

I'm a single mum and I'm finding it hard.

Please advise.

Girls do do that. I can promise you they do! It's normal...he's TINY at the moment.
When you say he's grizzling even after being changed and fed and burped, is that whilst you're holding him or is he sitting alone?

Most tiny babies prefer to be on you...they need contact. Have you got a sling?

I think the only thing I can suggest from an attachment POV is that you give him what he needs. He won't cling to you lkke a koala bear forever. It sounds like a sling would be a fantastic idea then at least you can pottet about and tidy up a bit etc. The dishes will wait though but he'll not stay this tiny forever xx

It's called the 4th Trimester. They are out of your body but want to be close and snuggly as if they were still inside.

It's not a boy/girl thing. It's a very common little baby thing. Do you swaddle or use a sling?

My son was like this and unfortunately is still very whingey at 15 months 🙄

It’s very normal and not just because he’s a boy - both of mine have been like this and I have one of each.

Have you got a baby carrier? I find that helps a bit. Also, I know it’s difficult, but just try and accept that you have a grumpy baby. It’s not your fault, you aren’t doing anything wrong, some babies are just high needs and hard work. I’ve had two proper screamers now and it’s really really hard when you’re going through it. It does get better.
