4 weeks old only sleeps and cries

Hey everyone, I'm a new mum to a beautiful boy who just turned 4 weeks today.. I am just wondering if it is normal that he isn't really interested in anything, than eating, sleeping and crying when awake. We are trying to connecting with him and showing him toys, do the tummy time, talking to him, making an eye contact, etc.. He is interested for about 5 minutes (if at all) and then cries and cries.. He is really great in tummy time and looking around with his head lifted but not for long either (like 2 minutes top)..

I know he is way too young to pay an attention for long, but is it normal that he is crying for most of the time (even when fed, dry nappy, burped, etc) instead of just looking around and interacting with us??

Thank you

I don’t think I’d expect looking around/interaction as their eyesight is not yet very good at that age (concentrate on showing black and white patterns and being no further than two school rulers away from their face) but constantly just crying is an issue.

Congratulations and welcome to motherhood 🌷.

Have a read up on the forth trimester if you haven't already. Their world is suddenly much larger and perhaps they're feeling little overwhelmed. Perhaps just go back to basics. Lots of cuddles and skin to skin. It's great that they are okay on their tummy for a minute already. Keep that up too.

Sounds like you're doing a fab job x

Mine is now at two months only just managing to sit in her chair for a bit longer without crying. Both my kids were like this. The sling has been amazing. It gets easier once they have big mental development meals. Look up Wonder Weeks if you have time.
