21 month old worried about development

Hello!! I wanted to get some advice. I have a 21 month old son. He only says 10 words(functionality) but baby babbles a lot
Some of the things he does is:

  • Flaps hands when excited sometimes but this is less then it used to be. Maybe once a day now.
  • Has started to point at things to show us and in the past few days started pointing because he wants something. (I’m really excited he has started doing this. But I know it’s a little late)
  • Loves to open and close doors and drawers (like every door he sees as to be closed)
-move things from one drawer to another sometimes. Not every day.
  • He makes eye contact
  • Answers to his name
  • Has joint attention( most of the time)
  • Plays well with sister but she is 10
  • brings us things
  • hates when we leave a room
  • Does not really like to play alone

I took him to the doctor and he said that he believes it’s just a speech delay. He was also evaluated from early intervention and they said they didn’t see autism either. He didn’t qualify for speech therapy but is going to receive developmental therapy to help some social delays. No one in my family says they see it either. At 19 months scored at 3 on the mchat but now scores a 1. Has anyone else been through something like this? Thank you for all the advice.

My son is 28months old doctors never really bothered about his speech delay and but when he has his 2year assessment the health visitor referred us to home talk it's like the first stage before speech therapy.

So I would speak to your health visitor about something like that not sure if it's country wide but there might me something similar in your area.

He was evaluated by speech and developmental therapy. He didn’t qualify for speech because they said it has to be extreme to qualify before 2. He barely qualified for developmental because of some social stuff. He stays home with me so he never really had to initiate stuff.

You said that he's now started to point at things that he wants that's fantastic as that is a way off communication

I completely get where your coming from my son is also at home with me all day he also has some social skills issues but my health visitor wouldn't do anything until he's was 2 and only after his 2year assessment, early intervention is now referring him to an speech and behaviour therapist.
