Pandemic and impact on development

Hi,

I'm a FTM with a 6 month old baby born in the first week of lockdown. I'm suddenly feeling worried about the potential impact lockdown/distancing has had on my baby. Also how lonely this experience has been and will continue to be it seems.

I spend hours every day playing, talking and singing etc and distanced walks with friends a few times a week. We have had no one but immediate family in our home and this hasn't been regular due to the distance we live from them.
I just feel worried that my baby is missing out on so much and possible having a negative impact. Any guidance about what more I could be doing with her (in a covid safe way) would be very much appreciated.
Thanks x

Your baby right now needs only you. Until he's much older he won't really care about playing with other kids and is primarily focussed on receiving love, comfort and security from his main caregivers and forming a strong attachment to them so that he can feel safe to start to venture out and explore the world more independently at more like age 2. If anything it'll be better for him getting more engagement time with you and presumably more consistent routines etc. Change of scenery will certainly help stimulate him but this can still be achieved with a walk to the woods or something. As long as you're happy and secure and engaging positively with him he'll be getting just what he needs so don't worry. Just focus on keeping yourself sane and happy because that's what he'll remember when this is all over xx

I'm in the exact same boat and was wondering whether to make a post. I worry my 4mo ds will have really bad separation anxiety as the only people he comes into contact with are his parents and grandparents on the odd occasion x
