Ds is 8 months old. He had a cold last week and had one day where he was crying all of the time except when he was on calpol. He's still got quite a runny nose now but he'd had that prior to the cold and we put it down to teething - he doesn't seem to be showing any other signs of teething at the minute and he has three teeth through which were fairly straightforward. He's seemed quite fretful at night for a the last week or so sometimes going to sleep ok but then waking - not always for too long but crying and either settling when i comfort him or give him his dummy of just settling himself after a few seconds. This morning he was crying on his way to nursery and nursery said he'd not been his usual self all day and at one point had a bit of a temperature. He was ok this evening but is generally more fretful. He's usually such a jolly and giggly baby and I don't know whether its down to teething, whether its some sort of post-viral thing or its just his developmental stage (not the temperature bit!) Does anyone have any ideas? I feel like i'm always worrying about him at the moment.

I think that teething dampens their immune systems down... actually, didn't I read somewhere that there really is a teething virus? Anyway, they are more susceptible to whatever bugs are about when teething. And the change in weather means that colds & flu will be rife, soon. So... methinks he's just battling with the nasties, but in a normal (good) way. Just do your best to keep him as happy as he can be.

sounds very much like teething to me, and some teeth cause more problems than others. Ds2 is teething again at the moment, and is running a temperature and is more restless at night. He's also got a cold which doesn't help.
At about 9 months both of mine were a bit more anxious of being left as well, so it could be a bad mixture of lots of things.
If you are worried take him to the doctors.

I would think he still has a bit of his cold especially as he is still having temperatures and a runny nose. Maybe he has a slight headache or sore throat because of it and that is making him grumpy. give him lots to drink and wait for him to get better. Sometimes children can take ages to get over these things. Especially now it's getting to be the virus season.
