10.5 month baby issue with solids??

Hi, this question seems to have been asked numerous times on here but I'm wondering if I'm making the problem worse. Started weaning at 5.5 months on puree etc and went really well, took most things we gave her. However as she's got older she's become so fussy and hardly eats a thing. Some days are better than others but I'm really beginning to worry!! She's also a petite little thing plus now she's crawling im so worried she isn't getting enough goodness for energy etc...
So to compensate I offer more formula which she happily takes but I'm aware this fills her belly so probably doesn't want much solid food ...bit of a chicken and egg situation I guess....I'm going round in circles! This also sounds completely ridiculous but I honestly did not realise until recently babies of this age should be dropping a bottle in favour of solids ( so HV advises me) but if I don't give her formula I'm getting myself in a state thinking she'll starve... arrghhh 😬
Any advice please mum's (and dad's) ???
Thank you!!

How much milk is she having? At that age both mine had 3 milk feeds and were on 2 by 12 months. I think nhs says around 400mls for the 10-12 month age group

dementedpixie she has on average 560ml over 4 bottles..i'm not sure if i should drop a bottle or follow her lead... clearly she doesnt want solids or at the least a very small amount...does dropping a bottle guarantee she will eat more...i dont think so ?!

You could gradually drop the amount in the daytime bottles rather than cut a whole one out. Might encourage more solids at a slower pace

Hi @nadine6301,

I had a similar situation with my now 13 month old. He became very picky with his food and meal times became quite difficult. I would definitely reduce the milk and don’t compensate if your little one isn’t eating. I changed to a big bottle in the morning and night and just water through the day to increase his appetite and this did eventually work.

If you don’t feel comfortable dropping them completely in the day then I would only give a small one after mealtimes. She will eventually realise she’s hungry and decide to eat. Even if she only eats a small amount it’s progress and will get her used to the food over milk idea :)

X

Duran31 thank you yes meal times are very difficult, I'm so concerned every day! I will try your suggestions and hopefully I too will see some improvement. It's so frustrating as although petite she had a good appetite at the start and would eat anything. Now it's a struggle getting her to eat anything at all, she also refuses to be spoon fed, it's all finger food. I'm giving her a spoon at meal times and it's obvious she's trying to feed herself but currently unsuccessfully Smile
Weirdly when we are out or on the move in the pram she tends to eat more?! Maybe she doesn't like the highchair?!?
Thank you for replying though, it helps somehow knowing it's a thing that some babies do and hopefully not something I'm doing wrong... Hmm

@nadine6301 it really is so frustrating! I feel your pain bless you! It’s good that she wants to feed herself though! Maybe she just wants to be independent lol! I found my need for being clean had to go out the window in the end and I just had to let him go crazy with the food Grin

It’s funny you say that about the high chair, I bought one of the cheap ikea ones because he hated the nice comfy one I spent loads of money on but would be happy in the cheap ones in restaurants lol. I think he liked feeling a bit more free Confused

Best of luck with your little ones feeding! you are deffo not doing anything wrong, there’s plenty of us going through it too Smile
