Teething... he'll only eat crap!

Ds is 17 months, and has been teething really badly for 3 or 4 weeks - molars are coming through soooo slowly.

Anyhow he's always been a fussy eater, and when he's teething he goes completely off his food. His current diet consists of chicken, fishfingers, fries, toast, and organix snacks. No matter what I put in front of him he will not eat it unless it's one of the above. And please don't say 'if he's hungry he'll eat' because frankly in the case of my son that is not true.

I'm thinking of giving him more milk during the day (he's on Neocate as he's allergic to dairy, and at the moment has two bottles), as his nutrient intake is so rubbish at the moment.

I guess what I want to know is will this awful diet and reintroduction of another bottle while he's teething completely screw up any normal diet he had beforehand, or should i just ride with it?

It's ok, you can tell me off for feeding him rubbish... I can take it!

chicken, fishfingers, chips (try and do your own in the oven?) toast and organix snacks sound fine to me!

I wouldn't class that as junk at all.

He sounds like he's getting a fine diet. What I would say is just keep offering the other stuff you want him to eat; I presume veggies n stuff? Keep putting it on his plate, small amounts. For as long as it takes. He WILL eat it again in due course.

oh and meant to say I never heard yet of a toddler who literally starved themselves if organix were not on the menu.

If you don't want him to eat a certain thing, don't give it to him. He's a baby, he can't buy this stuff himself. He's having milk, that in itself would keep him going just while he realises that you have an iron will

I know you say don't tell you this, but really, he will eat other things if that is all that's on offer. He will not starve first.
