i have a 5 week old baby who screams the place down in agony if i put him in the car seat or bouncy chair..he tries to pull himself up and screams as though in pain ..he s o.klying flat in his bed and has to have buggy slightly up as he hates being in there too, its impossible to go anywhere as he screams constantly in the car until we get there, only likes to be carried upright and suffers from colic in the eves mainly..formula makes his screaming worse too. ive started taking him for cranial osteopathy as he got stuck during birth.head then shoulders as he was such a big baby!! anybody had similar experience? its as though it hurts his neck/back when sitting..any ideas AS its driving me potty and poor thing is sufffering and i cant go anywhere without feeling embarrrassed about my screaming baby..others drive there baby around in a car as a way to get there lo to sleep..its not fair...

DS loved his seat and pram but DD not keen at all when the same age as your lo, in fact she'd never sit and chill out in her bouncy chair. She would lie in her moses basket happily and she had quite a bit of tummy time on her playmat. Used a babybjorn to carry her around until she just got to that bigger stage where sitting up was interesting. DS would relax in the supermarket baby seat smiling at everyone; dd would scream her way round which is why internet grocery shopping became a godsend. Again once she could sit up independently she became much better.

On the matter of trapped wind, have you tried Infacol or Dentinox?

It's a difficult question as there might be some medical problems. What I would advice is to give him lots of skin to skin contact, put him tummy to tummy with you and no clothes on, the heat of your body might reassure him. You could use a sling during the day. Buy good ear plugs? I know it sounds strange, but if he is pain and there's nothing you can "do" about it, you can put him in the sling and put your earplugs in. I did that with DS1 when theething. It doesn't help with the pain but at least he will feel reassured.

Could he be allergic to the cow's milk in formula? You could get him tested for allergies/intolerances, and if necessary move him to a formula based on a different milk.

or stop giving the top up altogether. The smelly farts sound to me like he's having digestive trouble..
