Lacto free milk

Hi

Been advised to try 5 week old baby on lacto free milk. I'm lacto intolerant.
She's been extremely windy! Farts a lot! And I mean a lot!
Been in a lot of pain, will not settle at all :-(
The fart pain constantly wakes her up it's ridiculous.

Does anyone no if this milk is still cow milk based? I heard soya based milk makes them infertile..?
So want to avoid that!

Also used to buy pre made formula bottles for outings but lacto free doesn't come pre made.

I use a perfect prep machine so I'm useless with having cold boiled water. How long is cold boiled water ok to keep for?

Has the lactofree milk not been prescribed for you? Yes it is cows milk based with the lactose broken down (lactose is the sugar in milk).

Or you could try colief in her regular milk as it contains lactase enzymes that break down the lactose in the milk

I got the sma one off the shelf at pharmacy. I was advised from HV.

She did mention collief but you have to put in bottle 30mins before and my baby wouldn't wait that long for a feed when she wants one.

Although I have seen a drop called co lactose

I think the fertility thing was for boys not girls iirc

Hi there,

Might be a complete different situation but my baby was very simerlar, but also refluxy on top of the constant wind, belly ache and cramping. I never tried lacto free although have been advised, I tried one bottle and he threw it all up. Any way we ploughed on and he's now 7 month old and doing great on solids and milk etc. I was so worried, is your little one gaining weight? We stuck with milk with the infacol and gaviscon and omeprazole and it just seems he's growing out of it all. There is colief out there too as I think some one mentioned. We took a flask of water up to bed with us for the bottles, was told not use a prep machine can't remember the reason. Im not sayi g don't try the lacto free milk or anything always go with the Dr but just a bit of reassurance my little one was horrific for months with wind, tummy cramps etc and he's fine now so could just be a fussy baby.
Some other things that kind of helped.
. Burping after every ounce
. Tummy massages
. Dr brown bottles
Sitting up feeding so he wasn't swallowing as much air
Infacol
Feeding him little amounts more often.

Good luck

@Jaim23 thank you.
I'd say she has a bit of reflux also. She does spit up. Not all the time tho.
I'm getting the HV to weigh her tomorrow as she's not been weighed for 3 weeks. I think she's gained weight but weather it's the correct amount I'm not sure yet.

Part of me is thinking to ride it out also! It does seem very common wind in baby's.
She's not been as uncomfortable today. She does lots of burps with infocal as I double dosed her a few times last night as the wind was hurrendous!
Farts like a musical instrument tho!

It's so hard to no what to do. I'm going to phone doctor tomorrow and ask if there's any tests x

Hi,

It's horrendous, it was all through lockdown so after demanding a peadatricion Ive only ever consulted with her over the phone, although she is great. I'm not sure there is tests until abit older and actually trying lacto free to see if makes a difference I'm afraid. However from what I've learned with convos, going straight in with lacto free can actually make them lacto intolerance so always try re introduce normal milk if you do try it.( 2 weeks I think) If they are putting on weight it's not as concerning my little one still on 25th percentile so totally normal although I do feel he'd be bigger if it wasn't for reflux etc. Honestly I was sick with worry, he was choking with reflux. But at around 3 months things just started to ease up. Don't ever ever Google anything lol I worked myself up into a state from researching and he's fine now haha. What ever you decide to try just know there's plenty of us out there all with simerlar babies, wanting to tear our hair out with worry and tiredness. It gets easier promise haha x

Oh one more thing, I can't advise it as its frowned upon but although my son was always put to sleep on his back, through day when I was with him I settled him on his side. Got me a couple of hours peace through the day. He now sleeps on his front scares me to death but he's happy and can get back over. Sleeps 12 hours straight through.. Most of time anyway haha so he's made up for sleepless nights crying with tummy pain.

Colief helped my daughter a fair bit, although I couldn't ever wean her off it and it turns out she actually has CMPA - only discovered at 8 months!
Although the manufacturers say differently you can make bottles in advance and add two drops of colief to them provided they are not drunk for at least four hours. They have to be cooled a bit before adding the drops and then kept chilled and drunk within 12 hours - I verified this at the time with the NHS website but it's also on the colief website.
We could not have waited half an hour for the bottle to be ready either.
