Hey Sophie So sorry you're going through the nightmare of Colic! DS of 6 weeks and I went through this for 2 weeks and it was so exhausting and terrible to hear LO cry so much and with so much gusto. Some things I tried which worked for us are:

Infacol... but you need to use it consistently for a few days
Gripe water, but only safe if over 4 weeks old

If windy, really burping every tiny bit of air out... I now do this twice during feeding and once after feeding, then lie him down for a few minutes and try again. You can also try rocking little one back and forth slowly on your knee a few times then winding as it can shift some air, and also take a look at tiger in the tree wind position

Bicycle legs when on back on your knees in case it's wind destined for the other end

Rubbing in clockwise motion around belly button

If it's not to do with wind, you can try the colic hold where you pop them with head in the crook of your elbow face down and hand under abdomen on bum
To soothe them when crying (screaming more like!) try three dimensional rocking... ie back and forth, side to side and jigging gently up and down - I did rocking in a figure of 8 whilst jogging. When he was really inconsolable this helped so so much.

Can also take him to a dark room, either quiet or with white noise louder than the screaming which seems odd but works wonders!

And you can also try putting on the hairdryer or vacuum cleaner.

Colic is awful, wish you the best of luck, you're doing great and it won't last forever x

@sleepymama2020 Thank you so much for advice, did his colic go within 2 weeks? Everyone keeps telling me it will last for at least 4 months and I'm so worried as I honestly don't think I'll be able to cope for 4 months. It's awful

You're welcome! It did last only a couple of weeks for us but it doesn't mean it's gone for good!
Every LO is different so there's no telling how long it will last for yours, I think 4 months is worst case though.
I'd be surprised if it was consistent for that long as well... you might get small bouts of it every now and then but I can't see it being non stop. I am FTM though so please take with a pinch of salt x

How old is your LO?

Our DS had colic. It peaked around 7/ 8 weeks old. By the time he was 10 weeks old it was much better and stopped completely by 12 weeks.

Hello, I couldn’t not respond to this!

Our little girl had a severe case of colic between 3 and 12 weeks. It did pretty much stop at week 12 though - not 4 months (our HV said most babies stop at 3 months). She would cry from anytime between 3 and 4pm until midnight. We used to take it in turns carrying her round and giving her warm baths- they were the main things that could comfort her. (We’d massage her tummy after her bath).

We tried Infacol, comfort milk (made her worse for us but I know this has worked for some babies so worth asking your HV about), gripe water, baby gaviscon (we think she had reflux too). I think the infacol helped with the wind but I don’t think it mattered how often we winded her (I spent what felt like hours) she was still upset on an evening.
Not sure if you’re finding the same? What part are you finding the hardest? The constant crying or is babies sleep affected too?

I really feel for you. I felt helpless and I was exhausted. What I will say is that 12 weeks feels like an eternity when you’re in the thick of it but it’ll be here before you know it.

It’s definitely worth trying different things to see if anything can help soothe it. I’m sure you’re doing an amazing job x

Hey sophie

My lg has colic too and silent reflux, not to mention upset tummy and crying when trying to poop.
She started at 2 weeks crying 10pm till 12am, then it started at 6pm till 12pm for weeks and nowat ten weeks it's a different bag from starting at 6pm or 7pm till either 9pmish or 10.30pm.
Sometimes it's straight screaming or she stops and starts and fights sleep.

I completely understand what you're going through, i really struggled too and still now it's hard but i just accepted that it's going to happen, put subtitles on Netflix so i can still watch tv and we just cuddle and comfort her as best we can. I try not to take it too seriously as if i did I'd crack up!
I just think to myself, she's bathed, fed, winded, massaged, nappy changed and cuddled so she's ok and by Christmas it should be gone.
I know it's not easy but just accepting that it's happening and that it's just a phase has helped me alot, also seeing yhat at ten weeks she starts crying abit later most nights around 7pm.

It will pass, i think alot of babies struggle with their digestive system when so little and it causes these problems. Poor bubs

Just remember you have got this far, you can definitely get through this and i bet you're the best mumma!

Just think, by xmas you'll be on here offering advice to someone else who is struggling with it, you having got through the other side.
Look after yourself the best you can and just remember that it passes Smile
