Speech 2.5

Ok I have 2 separate questions on one thread

My 2.5 year old has been a late speaker although lots of babbling but he's now starting to say a few words. If he's around family etc he copies the words at times but not so much at home if us parents try. Why is thAt? Is it just a case of him being better behaved at family's houses and showing off lol? Will be start speaking more at home?

I left him at my sisters for 2 nights recently while I had my new baby. He was totally fine no tears or dramas which I'm happy about. Does that mean we have a good bond? Also how do I know if he misses me or not or perhaps he was having so much fun he didn't realise I was gone?

If he's starting to speak words and his understanding is good and he can communicate what he wants, and shows you things he find interesting, then i think it follows that more words will come in all settings. Words are the easiest way for a toddler to communicate if they can understand and express them (according to our speech therapist). But only a speech therapist / paediatrician would be able to advise on speech delay versus speech disorders.

My DS was a very late speaker but he was diagnosed with speech&language and social communication delay at 3.

You seem concerned about his bond with you though, does he show you affection, enjoy interacting with you or can't you tell?

I have no concerns about our bond. If was just that I thought with 2 nights away that he would miss me more

My son said very few words at 2. At his check up, the health visitor said she would visit in 6 months to see how he was doing. In just 6 months, he became a lot more vocal and when health visitor phoned I let her speak to him. I would be very happy that your son was confident with your sister.

My son is almost 2.5
