What do you do when your lo refuses to do as you ask?

For a couple of weeks I have been getting dd aged 16 mths to help me tidy away her toys at the end of the day and she has done really well. However today when I asked her to bring me her train she shouted "no! no! no!" - and didn't! I was so taken aback that I burst out laughing - not the best reaction. I know it's really minor and not worth worrying about, but I do want to get into good habits early on - so what do you do when your lo flatly refuses to do something

Praise when she does do something you've asked... ignore when she shouts? At only 16m I guess she's still quite young to fully get what you're expecting of her. But agree it's good to get into good habits earlier.

Thanks. A colleague today suggested a star chart - but surely she is too young to understand this?

Yes, I think so. Sticker chart worked really well for my DS when he was 3.
