15 week old chewing hands

My 15 week old baby keeps chewing on his hands! Not just when he wants food, he just wants to chew on them all day. I'm trying to encourage him to have a teether instead and his toys and spend a lot of time playing and encouraging him to grab and keep hold of things but he hasn't quite grasped it yet. He will hold onto things if I place them in his hand but will let go of them when he wants to chew and have his hands instead. So far his hands have not been sore but do become red when he's chewing on them. I don't want him to start to get sores.
Is it possible he could be teething early? Anything I can do to help stop him doing it so much or tips to get him to take a teether instead?

Em yes on the teething front and I would hold my daughter and hold the teether for her. The best was a nuby mit one which I would bend in half length ways to make it like a fist and put it in her mouth. It did stop her biting her hands.

Thanks for the reply. I've got a range of teethers and tried holding it for him at his mouth but he seems to hate the taste or feel of them, pulls a face and pushes it away. The toy like a fist is a good idea though might have to give this a go.

My little one was like that as well, they start teething. The annoying thing was he didn't know how to hold on any teething objects but constantly wanted to chew on things. As a pp mentioned, try the teething mits it might help although it didn't help with DS as he kept on pulling it off.

I've ordered one on amazon, coming today. I'll see how it goes, never heard of them before but they sound like best option.

Definitely teething. As well as mitts and things to chew, you can also get teething powder to put straight into their mouth, that helps them with the pain.
