Is this really colic and constipation or something else? 3 wk old

Hi I’m a first time mum and have a almost 3 week old baby boy. From about 4 days old he started pooing a lot less and becoming quite fussy after feeds (bottle fed). He recently went 5 days without a poo, and has just gone 4 days. Previous to this he had a couple of poos that we’re hard and tiny. His latest poo (sorry if TMI) he actually did 3 on the same day and each one was different, first was quite solid, second was normal, third very wet. Doctor not concerned at the moment, he is feeding well and gaining weight so just been told to see how he goes. I have tried cycling his legs and tummy massage and I give him 20ml cooled boiled water every day. The other problem he has is his fussyness. Whenever he is awake he appears okay one minute, then the next minute he looks as though he’s straining, he straightens out his legs and arches his back and goes red in the face and cries very loudly. He will then start kicking his legs and occasionally when he does this he will pass wind. Then he will be okay for one minute... then it happens again! Its almost like he has contractions or spasms. It’s constant every day and night, even on the rare occasions when he’s done a poo. The only thing that stops the crying is when he’s asleep or his dummy, but even when he has that in you can tell when he’s in this pain/discomfort as he starts to frown and whimper and sucks like crazy... then stops... then starts again. I have been trying infacol in his bottles since Thursday but don’t feel it’s making any difference. He gets burped during and after feeding. Doctor puts it down to colic but I don’t know if I’m convinced as I do feel he is in pain. But I’ve never had a baby before so I don’t know what’s normal and what’s not. Anybody?

I think babies that age have trouble passing wind as they tend to clench it in. A bath helps to relax them. Are you giving your baby cooled boiled water due to the heat? My HV advised against it as it can imbalance electrolytes.

I’ve been googling and I think the colic diagnosis was correct... i just feel so helpless when he’s clearly in so much discomfort. I wish the infacol worked. @aimzxd I’m giving water due to the constipation, it can help to get things moving. They don’t like babies having water unless really necessary but I’ve been told to do it by midwives and HV. I give it very sparingly, after he’s fed, to ensure he doesn’t fill on water. He still takes his full feeds so I doubt it’s having any negative effect on him.

Colic is horrible. Tiger in the tree hold helped get trapped wind from my ds. Youtube has videos. He's a lot better now that he can sit up straight, I havent had to wind him since he was 12 weeks old but before that I had to give him an ounce, wind thouroghly & repeat. Took an hour and a half to feed and wind him. It will pass though.
