Help with developmentally delayed DS

Hello!

I’m after a little bit of advise if possible!

My DS is 2, 3 in September. He has a respective language delay, expressive language delay and echolalia (repeating words).
Due to Covid-19 our SALT department is closed, and I’m unable to reach anyone to ask for advise on self help to do at home.

All I’ve found so far for echolalia is to use phrases such as ‘do you want a biscuit? Yes.’ So DS repeats ‘yes’ instead of ‘biscuit’.

Also I’ve seen to use more directional talk such as ‘put the doll on the chair’, but DS is unable to follow.

His speech is fine in general, as the words he copies are clear.

He has his own words that he uses ‘mummy’, ‘daddy’, ‘milk’, ‘slide’, etc.

DS just seems to be in his own little world, and his listening and attention is quite poor. I am getting concerned that he is deteriorating, as I just cannot connect with him enough to ‘play’. I just tend to play alongside him.

Has anyone had a child with any of these speech disorders, and can you offer any advise?
Would really love some friendly support.

Hope you’re all having a lovely day.

The teach me to talk website is really good.

You can sign up to the mailing list and the email ideas are good. I think there are also YouTube videos and a podcast and ideas on the website. There is some stuff you can pay for, but I've never used the paid for service, the free stuff is a great starting point.
