Am I being to cautious with weaning?

Hi! I’m so worried that I’m being a wimp when it comes to wearing my baby and that it’s my worries that’s stopping him from progressing and not his ability. He’s now 7m20days and he has lots of mashed meals that I’ve made myself which include lots of textures and flavours. Spoon feeding I’m fine about. However, I’m so nervous about finger food, that I pass it to him and take it away immediately because he tries to stuff it in his mouth! I’m terrified he’s going to choke.

Did anyone else have the same worries?

It's very important that baby gets to try finger foods, not just for getting used to tastes and textures but for motor skills. Baby will gag at first, but is very unlikely to choke. If you're worried, watch some first aid videos, but you definitely need to get over this.

Start to try with soft stuffike Avocado and banana first. Then build up your confidence

Defo agree with the above.

We started a couple of weeks before our little boy was 6 months so not long ago.

Banana, cucumber basically anything soft.

Yep he shovels it in but it's actually amazing how instinctive it is.

But not quite instinctive for the parents as you do have to sit on your hands a bit.
Yes they gag, they might spew but we've seen no choking.

We've also got a crinkle cutter thing as these soft foods are tricky for them to grip.

Give him a big enough piece that he cannot choke on, i.e. raw cucumber or raw carrots but large piece not chopped up. That will build up your confidence and his skills too. He does not necessarily have to start swallowing immediately, it's more about the play with the food.
