So I hav started weaning my nearly 5 month LG as we've had so many problem with reflux and milk allergy's and just not taking as much milk as she should be so iv been reading all the books and we've started off with green vegetables and she is absolutely loving it she was showing all the signs of wanting food and it was defiantly what she was needing as is more content after having her solid for the day but what I'm not sure of when I start introducing another meal she's still taking as much milk as she's done which has never been a lot but I just feel the purées helping so much more she doesnt need laxatives everyday now and she's not straining anymore and toilets actually look like normal baby poo so my question is when would I really introudiuce a second meal I just don't want to do it too soon

My HV came out to talk about early weaning as my son has wanted our food for a while & gets upset when he cant get it. Basically she told us that food should not replace formula until they are 12 months old but in a few months if he tarts taking 2/3 meals a day we can start reducing the breast/bottle feeds. Right now your LO needs formula/ebm. My DS has reflux too. Baby porridge made it worse so we're giving it a few days then trying veggies. I was told it should only be a few spoonfuls max just now to get used to tastes, but they should not be having full meals for a while. I think she said 6 to 7 months for 1 meal and increase per appetite.

See we can't give her baby porridge as every single baby poddrige has cows milk in it and it would just make her worse she loves the vegetables she is only taking a few spoonful but loves it and I'm not trying to replace the milk as she's still taking the same but has never been a lot because she's never been happy taking milk I just don't know weather I should be giving her a couple of spoonfuls at lunch aswell as tea time I give her the solids after a bottle aswell just so it's not replacing anything

Id ask hv. Mine was very insistent he's only to get foods once a day till around 7 months. She gave me multi vits too for whwn he drops a bottle, said this would be around 8 months if he's on 3 meals.

Why are you talking about prepared baby porridge?

What's wrong with water and oats cooked as a porridge or am I being thick?

Isn't that how you make your porridge? (Adding or mixing in cow milk, almond milk or goat milk etc as you like)

Why not do the same for DC

My baby is 5 months old. She suggested no oats until after 6 months and told me to try bavby porridge mixed with breast milk. No dairy or water till 6 months either.

You don't need to buy special baby porridge, just put normal oats in the blender (standard rolled oats can be hard for baby to digest) and make the porridge up with breast milk or formula.

At 5 months, baby should only be having a tiny bit of food a day, and still as much milk as before. They don't need multiple meals a day til around 7 or 8 months, and you shouldn't be dropping feeds til then at the very earliest.
