Hello

Just wondering how concerned I should be, my son is 2 in a month and still doesn't talk. He mainly grunts all the time 🤦🏼‍♀️ he understands what I'm saying and points to things etc, I've tried picture cards - and followed all the advice I can find online and nothing seems to be encouraging him 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm a stay at home mum and have always talked and nattered away to him, but his friends who go to nursery are so much more advanced in their speech, worried that I've held him back by staying at home 😥

I was thinking of calling the health visitor and seeing if we can get referred to a speech therapist but want to wait until we know what's going on covid wise. And also don't really know if that's necessary at this stage??

Basically can someone tell me that their child was the same and then suddenly woke up one morning chattering away lol 🙈 x

I can't offer any advice, but I'm kind of in the same boat so watching with interest! My 22 month old has very limited speech and now I've just freaked myself out as have seen a video of a friends baby who's around 14 months old saying 'Happy Birthday' Shock

My little boy also doesn't go to nursery so I'm not sure what difference that has made, and I feel like I've tried everything to get him going but have had no luck...the understanding is there (and the tantrums!) but no real progress with the words...

I really don't think this is anything to do with Nursery at all, so try not to beat yourself up about it, especially as you really don't know if going to Nursery would have helped at all.

Once he's reached two, I'd do this progress checker. That should tell you if there are any concerns at all.

If there are any concerns, you can self refer for a hearing test and Speech & Language Therapy (SLT) I'm most ears Smile

@lg20590 sounds like we are in a very similar boat! I wasn't too concerned but then watching his friends of the same age start chatting away it makes me a bit paranoid 🤦🏼‍♀️

@JiltedJohnsJulie yeah that's a good point, that's a helpful link thanks - will definitely take a look!
