Every time I so much as look at him, his screaming increases, and he starts shouting "nononono!"

I have tried cuddles, no go.

Could this be a tantrum? If so, I don't know what has started it, he's been like it since he woke up from a nap, have offered food and drink, all offers of food, drink and comfort cause more volume though.

I just spoke to him and set him off agaion! have also given him some nurofen, in case it's teething.

he's 17 months old, what do I do?

Have also tried to play with him, but that's apparently illegal too...

ignore him and if you do have a playpen...put him in there so he doesnt hurt himself. Yep def a tantrum....i remember my DD was like that between 16 - 18 months old, she used to kick off for no reason !!!

Does he still have his naps? if yes..put him to bed instead

I get the same from my DS who is 2.2 - you can't seem to do anything right when they are in a 'mood'! Maybe he is just having a bad day. The nurofen may help if he is teething! I usually just leave him for a while, and he eventually snaps out of it!

Piggy · 18/09/2007 14:00

He's woken up in a bad mood - nothing to worry about. Let him get on with it and give him a cuddle when it's over.

InMyHumbleOpinion · 18/09/2007 14:00

he has just woken up from one, rather too early IMHO. I don't think he'll go down again.

I've put some music on too.

God, I hope he doesn't do this for 2 years!

he's having a moment - fear not, ignore him he will come round when he realises you've lost interest.

My 2.9yo told me this morning to stop talking to him in the car, spent the rest of the journey in silence until he said 'mummy, what you doing?' I replied, 'ignoring you sweetie pie, what you doing?' he said 'going school mummy'.

Something has bugged your DS, or he is feeling under the weather, leave him be - sometimes we don't want people around us either, maybe he just wants some quiet time.

It's calmed down to intermittant wails now.

He sounds really quite cross!

Norah Jones at a reasonably loud volume is soothing him, perhaps he realises he can't jangle my nerves so effectively with music, or maybe his own jangling nerves are being calmed

Meeely2 thats so sweet! InMyHumbleOpinion id maybe wait till hes calmed enough to put him in buggy for walk for change of scenery.also id keep an eye on him especially if hes usually calm baby incase he is coming down with something-probably is just a strop

InMyHumbleOpinion · 18/09/2007 14:17

He is now happily (HOw do they do that? How? It's like living witha manic depressive in a tight cycle!) hoovering with the dirt devil.

My answer to that is Pocoyo. I have 2 hours of it on video so I can just press play for 5 minutes!

It is one of the few programmes DD is allowed to watch purely because when I do put it on it stops any tantrum, instantly. She has been losing it quite a lot lately, the latest have been:

-Daddy going to work
-a loud car went past the house, she said 'dada's bike?' and I said 'no, it's just a car'
-Her dolly not lying in the toy buggy properly.
-And todays....Not being able to get her socks off, when she is standing up wearing them

She's 19 months BTW, oh the joys!
