Can I ask some questions about my 2.6 yr old ds?

Can your 2.6yr DS :
Sit and eat a meal without leaving the table, running around and throwing food and cutlery?
Walk alongside you and hold hands to cross the road without tantruming and dropping to the floor?
Follow easy instructions such as get your shoes without being distracted on the way and getting into mischief?

My 2.6yrs DS cannot.
Am I expecting too much?
DD could do all this easily at this age.
Should I be worried?

No - I have given up and decided to let him run riot and become a ferel child!!

boo64 · 18/09/2007 13:21

ah but I have a theory that girls aren't as good sleepers than boys so does that make up for it a bit?

Girls easier in the day but worse at night?

Anyone agree/disagree?

law3 · 18/09/2007 13:51

boo64 - i dunno, my 3.6 ds didnt sleep well at all, took some advice from here and he has managed 2 nights now without coming into my bed. First time since he left his cot.

How about girls whinge more??? my ds goes around bumping his head, falling over, walks into things and doesnt seem to mind. Or would that prove boys are more clumsy!!!!

I dunno boys must have something going for them in the battle of the sexes!!

boo64 · 18/09/2007 14:25

Oh god no, my ds is a champion whinger!
He could whinge all day if I let him and the slightest knock is a massive drama

bubblagirl · 18/09/2007 14:39

my ds is 2.4 and i must say can do all this but only because he had no choice if he didn't sit at table he'd go in highchair if he didn't hold my hand we would go home he is in chair for long walks anyway and has always gone to get his things if i ask if he doesnt i'll get them if he plays me up his in time out

but all children are different and like to be challenging in different ways i've always found my ds to be good at things but he is speech delayed and just seems to do as i ask now he likes the independence i think of being able to do it

i expect him to challenge me more when his tslking properly lol

he will get up from table still but i dont let him know i'm bothered i'll let him walk about and then sit him back at table and say if you just eat bit more you can have yoghurt or jelly after this seems to be enough to get him to stay there

boo64 my ds is great in day and night but will not stay in own bed did untill he was just gone 2 got scared one night now he wakes and comes into our room but working on that and is geting better

law3 glad to hear its all going good still x

My 2.9 ds is more placid than typical I think.
He can sit and eat at the table but my 4.7 dd cannot.
He can walk with me fine and follow instructions. Doesn't tantrum, dd does.
He has potty trained himself, dd still has accidents.
He wakes once or twice a night though-very tiring because I have a wakeful baby too.
they really are all different.
I think your ds sounds pretty normal.

DANCESwithTheMorningOff · 18/09/2007 15:02

Yes
Yes
Yes

and some days

No
No
No

'tis the nature of the 2yr old to infuriate and charm within a space of minutes. They are a strange phenomenen indeed.

madamez · 18/09/2007 15:04

Your DS sounds fine and within normal limits - and a lot like mine, who has just started the drop&strop approach to having his reins held (after a year or more of happily wearing them). DOn't worry about him.

shhhh · 18/09/2007 20:27

boo64 I disagree with you !!!

DD is our pfb and is 2.4....

1.Yes but bores easily and now rarely seems to finish meals as she is able to get up and walk off.. . High chair and booster seat wa/is easier as she can be strapped down.!!!!

  1. Yes, BUT has to hold dh & I's hand or she does a runner. She legs it at every opportunity. Reins do get used.

  2. Yes, she is ok a this.

BUT dd is a tantrum queen and is a live wire. Whn I visit friends etc its hardword for me. Im constantly up/down after her. She is totally different to our frinds ds who does all the above and more .

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. The theory that its only boys who behave like this is wrong!

YET DD is a brilliant sleeper. Has a 2 hour nap and sleeps 7/8pm-7-9am without problem.

DS is only 6 months so we are yet to find out...

No no and no.

He's 2.1 and is king of the tantrum right now.

orangehead · 18/09/2007 21:01

my 4 yr old struggles with those things most of the time. I know it hard but things do slowly get better

bagpuss · 18/09/2007 21:06

DS2 is 2.2 and can do the shoe errand thing but that is about it. The walking and hand holding thing is driving me bananas atm and the reins are coming out tomorrow.

SleeplessInTheStaceym11House · 18/09/2007 21:14

my dd could do those things, but i doubt ds will be able to, he cant stay still at mealtimes now at 10mo and hes strapped in a highchair!!
