Hi guys.

My daughter is just over 14 months old. She is mainly babbling and the only clear word she says is 'yeah'
Do you have any tips to help her with her language development at home. I am reading her books.
She loves watching the Wiggles so I sing her plenty of nursery rhymes.
Also any fun activities I can do with her.. She is walking great. With the current situation with coronavirus it needs to be something I can do at home.. In a small flat. No garden x

I don’t think it’s unusual at this age but it might be worth doing this Progress Checker Aimee at 12 month olds.

Things like Peek-a-Boo help and just talking to her help too.

Agree that Nursery Rhymes and reading help too. Sounds like you are doing everything right.

*aimed. I don’t even know any Aimee’s so I’m not sure why my IPad is sticking that name in!

Thanks I have had a look at the link.
Will keep persevering 👍

Talk to her, and talk some more and then some more.

I don't know what the wiggles is but TV, or ipad, whatever format is really not recommended or necessary under the age of 2-3 so I would cut that right out.

It is normal for children that age not to be talking, also normal for them to not be talking at 2.

It's normal, my DS2 is 14 months and I think he says "hi", but I can't make any other sense word out other than babbling dada mama baba. My DS1 was the same at this age, he said his first DEFINITE word at 15 months (pointed at a banana and said "na-na", no mistaking it!) and then had a few more by the time he was about 17 months, but then 18 months his speech absolutely exploded and by the time he was 2 he was putting a few words together and had 100's of words. He's 4 now and his speech is good.

Only 8 words are expected at 18M, so at 14M not many/no words are expected at all.

Kimmyfunk82 · 06/05/2020 12:41

Thanks for all your help. My HV said she expected her to have 6 words by 14 months?? Just made me panic. She is very vocal with her babbling. Got lots of books and repeating key words with her 😊

At 14 months, my DS only had a few words like "gone", "doggy" and "daddy", but he had a good understanding of what we were saying and could follow very simple instructions. Now at 23 months he is talking in 3 word sentences. Keep an eye on things, but it can also change very quickly.
