my dd uses a becotide inhaler occaisionally, when she has a cold and her behavious goes bizarre! really difficult, argumentative and generally nothing like her normal self.. can becotide do this?

Never heard of it, but I have used it for decades and I'm very strange..

Have you googled?

Spidermama · 16/09/2007 22:09

I've been on becotide in the past. I think it's pretty unlikely tbh.

When ds2 first started using Becotide he used to get completely hyper and manic. He used to try to get extra doses of it too. It wore off after about 10 days or so. Not quite the same as your dd but IME yes it can affect behaviour. No idea how/why though.

coppertop · 16/09/2007 22:14

Just did a quick google and according to this site yes it can cause irritability (and hyperactivity) so not just a coincidence. Scroll down to side-effects.

have googled... changes of behaviour seem rare... my dd's behaviour is quite severe

Perhaps she is allergic.

yellowbean · 16/09/2007 22:34

is there an alternative to becotide?

when my DD was given Becotide I was told to watch for any "over the top behaviour". My DD is very over the top so its hard to blame the becotide

My ds gets a bit hyped up, but the effects soon wear off. He also loses his appetite. It normally picks up again a week after I stop it. He also uses it just occasionally when he has a cold.

yellowbean · 16/09/2007 22:43

my dd is usually really well behaved, so the change is pretty noticable... poor thing, i really got cross with her, later i figured it could be becotide as shes reacted before

My heart starts racing and pounding and I feel very odd. I think if I'd had it as a child I'd have found those feelings quite scary. hth

It is reassuring to see some feedback from grown ups who can describe the effects of using this medicine. Thanks

yellowbean · 17/09/2007 22:47

my dd seems quite confused about her behaviour, she's not sure why she 'acts up' its probably really unsettling. what can i do though? i can't not give i to her when she needs it
