Mine started about 3 or weeks after rolling from back to tummy. He sometimes got annoyed he could't roll back but then he liked being on his tummy most of the time too. Does your daughter ever like being on her tummy or is it just frustation?

KBsMum · 08/10/2004 18:54

Neither of my boys were very good at rolling in any direction!! It was months and months before they got the hang of it. Both HATED being on their tummies.
I think ds2 didn't roll until about 9 months!!!

PicadillyCircus · 08/10/2004 18:56

DS had a few weeks between the rolling onto tummy and being able to roll off tummy phases.

I can't remember when they happened and he's only 10.5 months.

But I do remember the frustration...

Poo2 · 08/10/2004 19:02

DS has only just mastered rolling onto his tummy - he's almost 6 months. Mind you, he still gets his arm stuck and howls. Bless.

dd1 did'nt get the hang of rolling back again for about 6 weeks after she first rolled onto tummy. Dd2 never did it at all. She was always a bit chunky bless her, and rolled on her front once or twice then could'nt move again. Even now she hates being on the floor and I've never seen her roll about a room. (she's 18months now)

DS2 never got the hang of rolling back - he would roll onto his tummy, scream with frustration then throw up...!
He got the hang of it AFTER he learned to crawl...

Hi

My ds only just recently started rolling he is now 7 and half months

Chuffed · 08/10/2004 19:59

dd rolled back to front early and managed to go the other way once or twice quite soon but didn't do it regularly. Probably about a month afterwards at a guess was when it became regular.
Try propping her up with a pillow so she can still see or a mirror on the floor in front of her so she can look at herself.

Ghosty · 08/10/2004 20:04

This week DD started rolling from her tummy to her back. She has never rolled from back to tummy.
She is 8 months old.
DS was late doing any kind of moving too. Rolled from back to front a week before he started crawling at 10 months.
Don't worry kbaby, they all do things at different time and in a different order!

prufrock · 10/10/2004 09:39

Ds got them both within a couple of days- but this was in large part due to the "encouragement" of his big sister . Try lying her in the middle of a blanket on her tummy, then gently lifting the edge of the blanket to roll her over if you want her to get practice - but don't worry - one day she will just get it

I don't understand why the development books make a milestone out of this. It caused me unnecessary worry when my DD didn't roll when she was supposed to. I realised later that she just had no interest in doing it! She started crawling at 8 months and walking just after her first birthday so nothing unusual there. I think she first rolled some time after she had started crawling. Just as some babies don't crawl, they bottom-shuffle, and some go straight to walking, some babies aren't interested in rolling. Kbaby, please don't worry about it.

kbaby · 11/10/2004 11:12

thanks everyone. i was asking just so i would know if she will learn to roll back soonish. everytime i lay her on the floor or at night in her cot she rolls straight over to her belly, stays there for a few minutes and then cries as she cant move anywhere. ive tried a mirror and shes on a playmat with bright colours etc on, she just doesnt seem to like being on her tummy much. At night if shes in a light sleep and is on her tummy she cries until we turn her over.
i was hoping that rolling from front to back came soon so i can stop turning her over every 5 mins.

kbaby - if it's really a problem you could try the safetsleep which has been recomended on here before

Chuffed · 11/10/2004 12:33

kbaby if you are in London we have a very similar thing to this that you could borrow while you need it.

kbaby · 13/10/2004 12:19

thanks but now im worried. it says on the advert to keep babies/toddlers from tummy sleeping. i thought that once a baby could roll themselves in that position sids wasnt so much a risk.

kbaby dd has been on her tummy since she was able to roll over. In fact she has preferred sleeping on her tummy since she was born. Whenever she was upset dh just used to lie down and put her on his chest on her stomach and she would settle.
to be honest I wouldn't worry about buying one of those safesleep but just thought that if you were nearby you could use the safesleep without having to buy it.

Thanks chuffed I think I panic too much. I need to relax a bit.
Thanks for the offer though.
