Neither can he read, nor navigate ships.

He is 4, btw, and very lovely.

And resolutely unstretched.

And this level of development is NORMAL, competative mummies. NORMAL.

Just so you know.

God isn't is so bloody annoying to be surrounded by these highly strung, anxious mothers.
They are NOT hot housing their kids . oh no, their children are simply more gifted, talanted and beautiful than anyone else's.
Makes me want to barf.

gibberish · 16/09/2007 10:44

dd1 would have been termed 'gifted' if it was around then... she is now 14 and extremely NORMAL.

dd4 is extremely normal - does that mean she will grow up to be gifted?

SleeplessInTheStaceym11House · 16/09/2007 10:45

filly, know how you feel. people comment to me that dd is very well advanced....yes but have you met my ds

Blandmum · 16/09/2007 10:46

FFS filly, go buy him a ship and teach him to navigate now!!!!!!!!!

Do you want him to fall behind??????he is never going to circumnavigate the world at this rate.

Times a-wastin' my girl, sort your act out!

SpawnChorus · 16/09/2007 10:47

lol As a mother of a normal 1 year old and 2.7 year old this, I find your post very reassuring. Thank you!

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 16/09/2007 10:48

SleeplessInTheStaceym11House · 16/09/2007 10:54

or 'thank you' even!

gibberish · 16/09/2007 10:55

Oooh I wouldn't say that on here lol. You'd need to have VERY thick skin

ChasingSquirrels · 16/09/2007 10:55

Glad you are hapy with him...but is it right to ridicule people who ask a perfectly normal question just because their child has (or hasn't) started to do something and as they have had very little contact with children since they were a small child they just don't know?
My 19mo can't speak yet, so 20mo's who count to 10/20 whatever is just wierd to me. My ds1 was the same, I haven't worried about either of them, but can see how it would be very easy to do so. In the same way as that if I had a friend with a 19mo who could count and only had my ds to compare with I could see that she would think her child was exceptional and would want to see if this was the case.
Doesn't make them competitive (though no doubt some of them are).

My ds did not walk until 20 months simply because he was a bit lazy and did not really have to. Everyone I know treated me like he was some sort of freak! I just laughed because I know my son is the mostest cleverest

He now says "big ball", because he has a very big Dora playball, but only says a few other words and he is almost 2.

I don't care because I agree that it is psycho to worry too much and compare children. I don't think HVs help much though. When my dd was 2, our HV had a list of words she should know and dd failed her little test. Within weeks the referral for speech therapy came through the post and I just tore it to shreds and forgot about it. She is now a perfectly normal speaking 7 year old.
