Growing really slowly, is this a thing?

My DD will turn 2 in a couple of weeks but she looks really small for her age. She's in 12-18mth clothes, her feet are tiny, she's on 25th centile for weight. She was born on 50th centile for weight and 75th centile for height and tracked these centiles till around 6mths old.

I know it sounds daft but I have this niggling concern that she's far too small and not growing properly. She has other issues as well with poor sleep and eating. Could it be linked? Has anyone gone through similar and did their DC catch back up to birth centiles?

My first daughter was (is) like this. She was always 25th centile, always wearing clothes 6 or 12 months behind her real age, with tiny feet. She also always had a tiny appetite. I used to worry a lot, but she was super healthy and active and developed as she should in every other way. She's 6 now and is definitely one of the smallest in her class, but still full of energy and healthy so I don't even think about it. When she was a baby/toddler people constantly commented on her size and that probably got me down more than the fact of her being small! It felt like everyone I knew had a 90-centile baby - our culture really seems to celebrate big/squishy babies. It doesn't make sense - when they get to a certain age people worry more about them being overweight. Get yours checked out if you're genuinely worried about her health but otherwise, try not to worry about it - they're all different and clothes sizes are never going to be an accurate reflection of what she should be.

Have you tried plotting her centiles now to see which ones she’s on?

pinkcarpet · 17/04/2020 10:03

Yes she is now on 25th centile for weight and height. Her feet have gone up only a half size since she started walking 10months ago

I wouldn't be as concerned if she had stayed the same centile from birth its the drop that bothers me

If she was in the 75th fir height at birth and us now on the 25th, I would speak to the GP. The drop is a bit unusual.

pinkcarpet · 17/04/2020 13:26

I have spoken to GP already and been to a dietician

Sorry I missed that bit. How long ago was the visit to the GP and what did they say?

pinkcarpet · 17/04/2020 15:49

Initial visit was about 10 months ago and we were referred to a dietician who we saw in November. Both said she was small but normal. I feel like they didn't spend any time thinking about it which is why I'm looking for whether others have experience of this happening to their DC and what the long term impact, if any, was.

I think I'd want to know why she has gone down the centiles.

Did the GP weigh and measure her at the appointment? Has she gone any further down since then?

pinkcarpet · 17/04/2020 19:21

Agreed which is exactly why I'm looking for other posters in a similar position who may know why this could be happening. Yes GP took measurements and the dietician did too. Weight is still dropping centile lines. Was slightly above 25th centile, now slightly below. GP didn't have the correct thing to measure DD and still waiting for a pediatrician appointment, its been rescheduled 4 times by the hospital and now cancelled indefinitely due to current situation (which is fine, obviously)

I think they once the hospitals are back in business I'd keep on until you get an appointment. Make a real nuisance of yourself if you have to.

If you know the name of the Consultant, even better as you can phone and ask to speak to his secretary. You can make it clear to her that you are willing to accept cancellations and you can phone her more than once Smile

JiltedJohnsJulie · 18/04/2020 10:24

Oh and the dieticians might still be working. Did they discharge your DD? If not, I'd try giving them a call on Monday to see if they can give you any advice.
