DD just got her leg stuck between the bars of her cot TWICE

Thus the reason I'm moving her to the cotbed. I took off the one side of the cot - so it is converted now to the cotbed. Tonight I will put down pillows for if she falls out of the bed.

I'm just wondering, if I lay her down tonight to sleep, won't she get up and play with her toys and wonder round?

How did you do it?

We had to start leaving the side of the cot down just over that age as DS decided to start "bodysurfing" over the top rail! He tended to stay in there once put down - but sometimes played with toys we would leave in the cot. If she does get out then take her back and tell her she can play with a toy in the cotbed but mustn't get out. Good luck!

baby gets leg stuck

if it hurts then baby shouts or cries

parent frees leg

baby eventually stops shoving leg through bars if uncomfortable

DD2 did this a few times we put her in a sleeping bag problem solved

however, since the summer she has been out the sleeping bag and hasn't got her legs trapped so maybe she has learned

Thanks flamingtoaster.

If you read, you will see my problem - how do you move dc from cot to bed - NOT getting leg stuck - not stupid!

hiya, we moved ds to a toddler bed at an early age as he got too big for his cot.
Pillows are a good idea, we started to look for a bedguard but after a few weeks he stopped falling out (tuck duvet/sheets well under the mattress on the floor side).

you cant stop them playing when they get up however, all you can do is to make sure the room is safe for them. On a friends advice we put a safety gate across his door so he cant escape from his room at night or in the morning.... this works well and only once in 6 months has he appeared in our room unaided

good luck

I'm with twiglett - if a limb got stuck i'd free it! Wouldn't have crossed my mind to move 16 month old to a cotbed without sides. ds was in cot until he was 4 months short of being 3! I think it's a different sotry if they climb.

To answer your question, you could get a wee step stool thing to help her climb in and out? And have you thought about a bed rail?

folded up duvet on the floor works well too

you are moving your toddler because she gets her leg stuck through the bars .. at least that is what you stated in your OP ...

the only reason IMHO to move a child out of a cot is if they're tryign to climb out not because they get their leg stuck

nobody implied you were stupid, no reason for the face apart from to be insulting
