Firstly no it's totally 100% not your fault and secondly your mum is ignorant and frankly an idiot for saying that.

Does your little one understand what you are saying? Does he respond to his name?

Thanks for replying

Yes mum always uses to come round and say things like how on earth will he pick up words when I read so fast to him

He does respond to his name yes and he understands most of what we say I think

I wouldn't listen to her adivise, it isn't helpful.

If his understanding of language is okay that's a good sign. If your concerned speak to your health visitor. I really wouldn't be too concerned at this stage.

If he didn't have understanding i would be far more concerned. The fact he does is really positive. Your obviously worried about it which is totally normal. Personally I'd give your health visitor a call and explain your concern, then it's on her radar and she's aware of it and can make a referral if it gets to that point.

Personally with him having only just turned 2 and his understanding being okay i wouldn't panic. Babbling is also really positive. Some kids just need a bit of extra time, it really isn't that uncommon. Absolutely speak to your health visitor though as she's there to help with any concerns and can keep an eye on things for you.

Ok thank u so much. How do u know all this anyway, did u have kids late talking?

My son has very complex communication difficulties. I've also always worked with little ones.

Ultimately this is all my opinion, absolutely speak to your health visitor as they can do a visit and give you a far more detailed opinion and put your mind at ease.

Yeah I will do thanks. I spoke to a speech therapist friend I know and she pretty much said all that u did
