Hyper toddler/sleepy toddler

My 20 month old is rather hyper and full on, although tired, not sure if this is normal behaviour?
He goes to bed around 7:30pm, may wake once in the night, then usually wakes between 5-6am. When he wakes up he’s still showing signs that he’s tired - rubbing eyes, drowsy looking eyes etc, but he runs around like a loon. He usually has to have a nap after being up for 2-3 hours, and will sleep for around 2 hours.
Once he wakes it’s back to full power. During the afternoon he shows signs that he’s tired, but it’s difficult to get him to have a nap, or it’s getting too late in the day, and he just gets a grizzly mess.
Any advice?

it could be normal but he could well be overtired, he doesn't seem to be getting quite enough sleep maybe?

There is some advice in the No Cry Sleep Solution on early waking, which may help. Have you tried giving him a feed and seeing if he will settle back to sleep in bed with you?

Could you try moving his nap to after lunch too? You might have to do it in stages of 15 minutes a day, or every 2 days, and bring lunch forward but it might suit him better if he doesn't have such a long stretch of being awake on the afternoon.

Another thing to try is putting him to bed earlier. I'd try to aim for getting him to sleep by 7.15 for the next couple of nights and then 7 pm after that.

I’ve tried giving him milk once he wakes up early but has no effect. I’ll try and move his nap to later on, might be quite a struggle as he gets so grizzly and tired. Maybe with the clocks going forward it may help. I’ve always thought he doesn’t get quite enough sleep but he is such a determined little boy, and he fights it sometimes, particularly an afternoon nap. Thanks for your reply and advice 😊
