varies mahoosively i believe

ds2 is 7 weeks old now

started smiling at 5 and a half ish weeks

but i have a friend who's ds didn't smile for ages

funnypeculiar · 08/09/2007 21:10

aparently they can't smile before 6 weeks - but anything around7-9ish is pretty normal. And I wouldn't worry that he mostly smiles at toys - ds smiled almost exclusively at a stuffed lamb for the first 6 mths of his life. And is now a(reasonably) normal 3.5 yo

My DS is 7 weeks old and smiles but we have to really work for them. He smiles at the bars on my headboard in the mornings with no encouragement!! Dont fret he will be gurgling and smiling at you soon.

tcmummy · 08/09/2007 21:13

No, don't worry! It takes them a while to work out that you are a different person to them! ds had LOADS of smiles and adoring gazes for daddy from 4-5 weeks, but it took another couple for him to smile at me. He just used to gaze past me, unless he wanted his milk He's 20wks now and there's smiles and giggles all round!

I'm sure your ds will soon be smiling at you. If it bothers you (it did me for a while) try having some time with him that's relaxed and play some peek-a-boo games and try to catch his eye, touch his nose etc.

My sis's ds is 6 weeks and has just started smiling. He's gorgeous Don't worry - they are all different.

flowerybeanbag · 08/09/2007 21:14

hi bumbly
DS smiled at 5 1/2 weeks. First one was at me , but for a couple of weeks after it was mostly at random stuff, pictures etc

He is nearly 4 months now, and grins at me when he sees me

mmelody - our ds used to gaze and smile at the willow hearts on the wall over our bed, but we had to WORK for them!

bumbly · 08/09/2007 21:15

yeah me too - gazes past me and only sometimes looks at me when feeding!!

and also likes hubby perhaps more than me

but we have been having a tough time with his digestive troubles - so perhaps that could be a reason - or perhaps he is just a grumpy baby!

I'm sure he doesn't like your dh more than you! He just thinks you are a part of him at the moment! And, yeh, I reckon if he's been a bit poorly it's bound to make him feel a bit rotten. BUT I'm sure that as he gets a bit older he'll be fine.

Does your dh ever have him for an hour or two when you are not there? I get a big 'welcome home' grin if i've been away from ds for a bit.

ShinyHappySchmooo · 08/09/2007 21:33

biglips · 08/09/2007 21:41
