help - DS ears!

My DS is 21 months.

3 weeks ago I noticed he was waking in the night and covering his ears whilst crying. We went to the GP but he wasn't at all concerned, he effectively just told me that toddlers wake up in the night (who knew?Hmm) but that DS ears are fine.

However since then, he's started covering his ears during the day too. Sometimes he does it playfully whilst 'hiding', but other times it's when he's upset or nervous of something, or sometimes when he hears an unusual noise.

Today the staff at his nursery mentioned that they'd noticed him covering his ears at the sound of the bell & when a motorbike drove by (which is odd as DS loves motorbikes!).

Basically I don't want to be silly, but would it be worth getting another appointment? Or does it just sound like a developmental phase? DS is my first & is otherwise a lovely, happy little lad.

Does he have a temperature and did the GP check his ears and throat thoroughly? Might be a bit if an odd question but my GPS have form for declaring things are fine when they haven’t even looked...

It might be worth doing the m-chat, just to rule it out Smile

No, he hasn't had a temperature. My first suspicion was an ear infection but the doctor didn't seem to think so. DS did have a sickness bug 2 weeks ago but I think that's unrelated.

@JiltedJohnsJulie

Sorry, posted too soon!

How does it work? Is it a fairly official test or more just an online guidance? I'd be happy to take it, although DS doesn't seem to have any other signs but it did cross my mind! Thanks.

The test is fairly straightforward and is online. It’s just to give you an indication if there’s a concern Smile
